Banded Peak Brewing and Guardians of the Ice Speaker Series

Calgary, Alberta: On March 31, 2022, Banded Peak Brewing is hosting the third of their Guardians of the Ice Speaker Series in a live event at The Hemingway Room. Guardians of the Ice is a non-profit organization that works to inspire dynamic environmental stewardship on behalf of the rapidly retreating Columbia Icefield (Canadian Rockies) and its watersheds, leading to a low-carbon future for the whole planet. The third beer of the Guardians of the Ice collection, Mount Athabasca Dry Hopped Kolsch, is named for Mount Athabasca, the most visible from the Icefield Centre of the twelve Guardian Peaks. Mt. Athabasca and the Athabasca glacier were severely impacted by the heat dome of 2021.

The event will be hosted by legendary alpinist and Guardians of the Ice founder Jim Elzinga. Join us for an evening of candid conversation, education, beer tasting and Q&A in support of the Columbia Icefield. We will feature keynote speaker Kylee Toth, member of the Canadian Ski Mountaineering team, and Banded Peak brewer Erick Hollstedt, who will let us in on the unique aspects of Mount Athabasca Dry Hopped Kolsch.

Kylee Toth is a mother, athletic coach, personal trainer, and outdoor enthusiast. A true Canadian girl, Kylee’s childhood was spent ice skating, skiing, and doing all things active. She was a member of the Canadian National Speed Skating team until she retired in 2007. Still fervent about training and enamoured by the outdoors, the sport of ski mountaineering was a perfect fit. Ascending and descending mountains with speed and efficiency, with a healthy respect for nature, has propelled Kylee to elite status in North American ski mountaineer racing. On March 26 of this year, she will be competing in the North America Ski Mountaineering Championship at Kicking Horse Mountain, BC. Kylee’s story of her ski descent of Mount Athabasca will be one of the highlights of her presentation.

Mount Athabasca Dry Hopped Kolsch is the third of the GOTI series. $2 from every four-pack sold will be donated to support Guardians of the Ice. By drinking the GOTI collection you are helping protect one of North America’s most important water resources. Orders can be placed online at www.bandedpeakbrewing, purchased at the Banded Peak Taproom, or local liquor stores across Alberta starting on March 18, 2022.

“Climate change is occurring in our backyard and we can see the effect it is having on our environment. We feel that this is an important partnership that promotes education to support and encourage climate stewardship. The Rockies are the source of so many important aspects of all our lives from recreation to the water we drink and ultimately the beer we make. Protecting that should be a priority; one we should be well educated on.” Matt Berard, Founder, Banded Peak Brewing
